Eastside Community School is nestled on five acres in the Sammamish Plateau area of Issaquah, Washington. We serve students from Pre-school through Grade 8, with a parent and tot class for those just beginning their journey in Waldorf-inspired education. We seek a Grade Seven Teacher for the 2025-26 school year. Be our newest colleague!
Bring your enthusiasm for the students, for the curriculum, and for working in partnership with a thriving faculty and parent community. Share your warmth, positivity, and effective verbal and written communication skills with parents, colleagues, and the community. Bring your ability to work supportively and flexibly in collaboration with colleagues and your sense of humor.
The faculty circle at ECS engages deeply with how to keep our teaching alive and dynamic – encouraging the type of “living thinking” that brings forth new ideas in our students, faculty, and community alike. With both the stability of an established community, and the fresh pioneer spirit of a relatively new Board and identity, we find ourselves in a unique position of being able to draw on the strength of the past, and to also ask ourselves questions like what it truly means to be a Waldorf-inspired school at this particular juncture in human history.
Our current 6th grade class of 17 students is a kind and active group who enjoy being with each other. They are engaged, resilient, and are making the best of the atypical experience with a series of visiting block (3-6 weeks each) teachers this school year. The positive connection with their previous teacher continues as she has fine art class with them each Wednesday afternoon. In addition to the morning main lessons and a few extra main lesson slots a week, the group has subject teachers that rotate through including, Spanish, Japanese, Games, Dance, Handwork, Woodwork, and String Orchestra, as well as a year-long class with a Language Arts specialist and one with a math specialist.
The faculty circle is a dedicated and involved group that has stepped up to help hold the students this year. We have one class section in each grade level PS to grade 8. We have a representational Faculty Steering Committee for decision-making and active faculty department groups in Early Childhood, the grades, and subject teachers. There are regular full faculty meetings where we are all making decisions together.
